Some 250 alumni from four decades of graduating classes gathered on the academic quadrangle Saturday evening for the annual Alumni Association dinner. Amid toasts and much reminiscing, the attendees took the occasion to honor one of their beloved former tutors, Dr. Carol Day, who, after 35 years, is retiring from the College鈥檚 teaching faculty.

鈥淐arol has devoted herself to our students both in and out of the classroom, participating with them for some years in the College Choir, leading hiking and backpacking trips, and organizing star-gazing evenings, memories of which are among some of the best that alumni have from their time at the College,鈥 said President Michael F. McLean. Calling Dr. Day 鈥渁n outstanding teacher of students鈥 as well as 鈥渁 teacher of tutors,鈥 he added, 鈥淲e are deeply grateful for her dedication to the College and to our students.鈥

To honor Dr. Day, the Alumni Association presented her with several gifts 鈥 a bottle of her favorite spirits, a spiritual bouquet of many Masses and prayers, and a book of memories from her former students. The Alumni Association additionally used the evening to celebrate three graduating classes that were marking milestone reunions: the Class of 1976, the Class of 1996, and the Class of 2006.

鈥淎t 250 attendees, this is our biggest Alumni Dinner ever,鈥 said Director of Alumni and Student Services Mark Kretschmer. 鈥淚t鈥檚 no Grimm Family wedding, but it is a very good turnout!鈥
