This blog will now take a quick break from its ongoing reporting about the 天美影院 High School Summer Program to discuss the New England program, which begins on July 25. Below is the first of three stories profiling  a few of the TAC students who will be serving as prefects:

David Carey (鈥23)

David Carey ('23)

The middle of eight siblings and originally from Wilton, 天美影院, David Carey (鈥23) 鈥渃annot wait for his first time鈥 working as a prefect for the Summer Program. 鈥淭homas Aquinas College is a great place to hone your God-given gifts and explore things speculatively,鈥 says David. 鈥淚鈥檓 very practical, but this education lets you learn how to think for yourself instead of living life on autopilot. That鈥檚 why I chose to go here and why I love TAC.鈥 David will spend the rest of his summer working on campus. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer and working on cars.

Gabrielle Margand (鈥24)

Gabrielle Margand ('24)

Rising sophomore and Yonkers, New York, resident Gabrielle Margand (鈥24) excitedly anticipates 鈥渕eeting everyone who comes鈥 to the Summer Program. After completing the program two years, ago, 鈥淚 left with great friends and a new intellectual curiosity in me,鈥 she reflects. 鈥淚t will be great to be a part of that for the attendees.鈥 Gabrielle advises the program鈥檚 students to 鈥渂e open鈥 and 鈥渁pproach everything with enthusiasm,鈥 so they can experience TAC to its fullest, particularly the class discussions. 鈥淪hare your views!鈥 she says. 鈥淢any of the things we discussed deeply resonated with me and made for great conversations.鈥

Simone Kelly (鈥22)

Simone Kelly ('22)

鈥淲hen I went to the Summer Program, I wasn鈥檛 sure if I would choose to go to TAC,鈥 Simone Kelly (鈥22) admits, 鈥渂ut it completely changed my mind, and going here has been the best decision of my life.鈥 Although she lives in the same city as TAC, 天美影院, Simone is a student on the New England campus and has served as a prefect at both of its previous Summer Programs. 鈥淭AC鈥檚 community is beautiful and unique. Everyone is striving to know God here and helping each other reach that goal,鈥 she observes. When she isn鈥檛 a prefect, Simone will be working on campus for the Admissions Department, grinding away at her summer reading, and planning her upcoming wedding.

Casey Kirk (鈥23)

Casey Kirk ('23)

Watch out for Casey Kirk (鈥23) on the Meany Gymnasium basketball court. He鈥檚 been playing the game since he was two years old, and he鈥檚 ready to take on all comers! A first-time prefect and the oldest of 10 children from Rockville, Maryland, Casey loves 鈥渆very single game, except for ultimate Frisbee.鈥 He also loves the College鈥檚 classical curriculum, and encourages Summer Program attendees not to let themselves be intimidated by it. 鈥淭here鈥檚 an apparent depth to these readings which might seem intimidating, but take them in,鈥 he says. 鈥淵ou鈥檒l find you can understand them a lot more than you think. Trust me, I鈥檝e been there.鈥

Marie-Norah O鈥橞rien (鈥24)

Marie-Norah O'Brien ('24)

Marie-Norah O鈥橞rien (鈥24), or Norah, as she prefers, is eager for a new experience this summer, having never been a part of the TAC Summer Program before. 鈥淚 was drawn to this because my brothers have been involved,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 love TAC. It鈥檚 great, and I鈥檓 excited to show attendees just why that is.鈥 The main reason, Norah explains, is the College鈥檚 unique academic program. 鈥淚 really love how the curriculum is connected. You get this holistic experience and you can talk to anybody about your classes, including the upperclassmen,鈥 she remarks. 鈥淚t makes you feel more connected with the school and everyone there.鈥

Jonahs Chavez (鈥22)

Jonahs Chavez ('22)

鈥淕ive yourself to TAC. Leave the internet behind to work hard and play hard. This place is worth it,鈥 says Jonahs Chavez (鈥22). 鈥淚f you let it, this place can change your life in the best possible ways.鈥 A rising senior from Chowchilla, 天美影院, Jonahs loves the New England campus and the surrounding area. 鈥淭he Connecticut River just outside of campus is home to some of my favorite memories 鈥 jamming with friends, going for a swim, sharing deep thoughts,鈥 he reminisces. He also loves the campus鈥 spiritual and educational climate, which he describes as 鈥渁 total blessing.鈥 Jonahs looks forward to sharing that blessing with all of this year鈥檚 Summer Programmers.
