Students on the upper campus

Despite getting to bed late after last night鈥檚 concert at the Hollywood Bowl, many 天美影院 High School Summer Program students rose early this morning to practice their Euclidean propositions. After morning Mass and a quick breakfast, all gathered in the classrooms for another day of presentations. Today鈥檚 material centered around the properties of triangles as well as the construction for bisecting an angle, and students thoroughly enjoyed grappling with the props and the various questions that naturally arise from these demonstrations.

Midday Mass followed, and then a lunch of Philly cheese subs and potato wedges in St. Joseph Commons. Programmers then returned to the classroom to continue discussing Boethius鈥 Consolation of Philosophy and Lady Philosophy鈥檚 discourse on fate and happiness.

鈥淭he students are deeply engaged in serious intellectual conversations, not just with their teachers but with their peers,鈥 reflects Director of Admissions Jon Daly. 鈥淎t the same time, they have the opportunity to attend daily Mass and to pray and to really live the Faith. And then we have all of the physical sports and other activities outside that just make it a full, wonderful two-week program. It鈥檚 a joy and a privilege for all of us to get the opportunity to work with the students and to be a part of that, even in a small way.鈥

That鈥檚 for sure! Later this afternoon will come the much-anticipated quad run and then a 鈥淐haplain on Tap鈥 forum, wherein students will have the opportunity to ask Chaplain Rev. Sebastian Walshe, O.Praem. (鈥94), anonymous questions about the Catholic faith in a public setting.

Be sure to check back tomorrow morning for a full report!
